Story of two little mice...in milk
Once a big fat Mouse and a lively
little Mouse were hopping along together when they had the misfortune of
jumping into a pail of fresh milk. They swam for hours and hours hoping to get
out somehow; but the sides of the pail were steep and slippery and death seemed
to be certain.
When the big Mouse was exhausted
he lost courage. There seemed no hope of rescue. "Why keep struggling
against the inevitable? I cannot swim any longer." He moaned.
"Keep on! Keep on!"
urged the little Mouse, who was still circling the pail. So they went on for a
while. But the big Mouse decided it was no use.
"Little brother, We may as
well give up" he gasped. "I am going to quit struggling."Now
only the little Mouse was left.
He thought to himself.
"Well, to give up is to be dead, so I will keep swimming."
Two more hours passed and the
tiny legs of the determined little Mouse were almost paralysed with exhaustion.
It seemed as if he could not keep moving for another minute. But he thought of
his dead friend, and repeated,
"To give up is to be meat
for someone's table, so I'll keep paddling on until I die – if death is to come
– but I will not cease trying – while there is life, there is hope."
Intoxicated with determination, the
little Mouse kept on swimming around and around the pail, chopping the milk
into white waves. After a while, just as he felt completely numb and thought he
was about to drown, he suddenly felt something solid under him.
To his astonishment, he saw that
he was resting on a lump of butter which he had churned by constant paddling!
And so the successful little Mouse leaped out of the milk pail to freedom.
Success comes with persistence and concerted effort, even when things don’t
seem all right. The belief to win, and focus on goal, delivers success at your
doorstep. But what drives the vehicle of persistence, and concerted effort,
what fuels the belief to win; it is the fuel of optimism. Optimism allays all fears,
relieves you from the nightmares and keeps you on course. Optimism is blinker
of positivity.
Optimism is common sense, but why it is so difficult to come by. Taking a
cue from the analogy of Mr. Triumph and Mr. Defeat, from David J. Shwartz’s
Magic of thinking big, why most of us have Mr. Defeat working in our brain
factories full time, why and when did we fire Mr. Triumph, what made us take
the decision to manufacture negative thoughts in our mind with the help of Mr.
Defeat, instead of manufacturing positive ones under the able supervision of
Mr. Triumph?
Studies have shown that within the first eighteen years of our lives, the
average person is told “no” more than 148,000 times. We are constantly being
told by parents, friends, teachers, television, and co-workers what we cannot
do. This conditioning causes many of us to achieve a small fraction of our potential.
.Having been conditioned this way, we often believe we can’t achieve greatness,
so we don’t try. If we do try, we expect to ail. This result is a pessimistic approach
to life.
Change the words that you use, your approach would also change. We often
use the word “Problem” in our day to day life, if you start counting how many
times in a day you use this word, you yourself be surprised. Try doing a small
change, instead of using the word “problem” use the word “challenge”. The sound of the word “challenge” has a
positive connotation, it is asking you to brace up, and get ready. Whereas, the
word “problem” has a negative tone, and makes you feel down and out, makes you
lose the fight even before it started. We need to win in our minds, first, if
we wish to conquer outside it. This idea can definitely change your life.
Some more phrases you need to rephrase, and some questions you need to
remove from your vocabulary, instead of saying “I can’t do it” say “How can I
do it?” instead of saying “I can’t afford it.” Or “It’s impossible” begin
asking the question, “How can I afford it?” and “How is it possible” This small
change in the approach can change the outcome of many things happening in your
personal and professional life in a positive way.
28th April, 2018 has become a
significant date in the history of our nation, Now all the villages of our
country are electrified, four years ago when the prime minister announced this
goal, people were sceptical, and even the officials in the government were not
sure, if this target can be achieved, But everyone agreed that PM Modi is very
optimistic and believes in his optimism, he transferred his optimism to his
people, they started working, asking all the right questions doing all the
right things, and could achieve the apparent impossible feat of 100%
electrification of all the villages of our country. This is the power of
optimism and belief. As Sterling Sill said “Leadership is the ability to make
goodness operate in the lives of others” Mr. Modi did exactly that.
An optimist person always sees hope, he always seeks and finds out light at
the end of longest and toughest of tunnels. He uplifts and inspires those
around him. Your words and actions can be used to build or to destroy others.
Great achievers choose to build those around them.
Helen Adams Keller an American author, political activist, lecturer and
first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, also believed in the
immense power of optimism in paving the path of success, she says – “Optimism is
the faith that leads to achievement.”
So keep the hope alive, keep the faith alive, and keep the belief alive.
Stay optimistic, become successful.
